William Fawcus

William Fawcus (born 1930, died 2015) was a British television director and producer, primarily known for his work on British television drama, particularly during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. His credits include episodes of notable series such as The Avengers, The Professionals, The Sweeney, Minder, and Van der Valk. He also directed single dramas for anthology series such as Play for Today. Fawcus was considered a reliable and competent director, often tasked with bringing episodes in on time and within budget. His directing style was generally straightforward, focusing on clear storytelling and strong performances. He did not develop a distinctive visual signature as much as some of his contemporaries, but his contribution to British television during a period of significant growth and innovation is considered noteworthy. He also worked on series such as Special Branch and Doomwatch. He retired from directing in the late 1980s.
