William Duke (mathematician)
William Duke is an American mathematician specializing in number theory, particularly analytic number theory and modular forms. He is known for his work on topics such as quadratic forms, L-functions, and the distribution of values of modular forms.
Duke received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1983, under the supervision of Hugh Montgomery. He has held positions at various institutions, including Rutgers University, and is currently a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
His research contributions include significant results on the equidistribution of closed geodesics on modular surfaces, and the subconvexity problem for L-functions. Duke's work often involves connections between analytic number theory, algebraic number theory, and geometry. He has published numerous research papers in leading mathematical journals.
