Whispers (Passenger album)
Whispers is the sixth studio album by English singer-songwriter Passenger (Michael Rosenberg). It was released on June 6, 2014, in Europe and Australia, and June 9, 2014, in North America. The album followed his breakthrough album, All the Little Lights, and represents a shift towards a more upbeat and anthemic sound while retaining Passenger's signature folk-inspired songwriting.
Whispers features a blend of acoustic ballads and more expansive, layered tracks, exploring themes of love, loss, reflection, and social commentary. Rosenberg has described the album as being more "cinematic" and "bigger" than his previous work.
The album spawned several singles, including "Hearts on Fire," "Scare Away the Dark," and "Whispers." "Hearts on Fire" was particularly successful and contributed significantly to the album's popularity.
Whispers received generally positive reviews, with critics praising Rosenberg's songwriting and vocal delivery, as well as the album's production quality. It achieved commercial success, reaching the top of the charts in Australia and several European countries, and charting highly in the United States and the United Kingdom. A follow-up album, Whispers II, featuring B-sides and alternative versions from the Whispers sessions, was released in April 2015.
