Vennimala
Vennimala is a small village located in the Puthuppally panchayath of the Kottayam district in the state of Kerala, India. It is known primarily for the Vennimala Rama Lakshmana Temple, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana.
The temple is believed to have been established by Cheraman Perumal, a legendary Chera king. Legend states that the king, while hunting in the forest, was guided to the location by a sage and instructed to build the temple. The temple is considered one of the oldest Rama temples in Kerala.
Vennimala's significance lies mainly in its religious and historical importance. The temple draws pilgrims and visitors, contributing to the local economy. The village itself is primarily an agricultural area with a traditional Kerala rural landscape. While not a major urban center, Vennimala plays a role in the cultural and religious heritage of the region.
