USS Jenkins (DD-42)

The USS Jenkins (DD-42) was a Paulding-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War I. Named for Rear Admiral Thornton A. Jenkins, she was launched in 1912 and commissioned in 1913.

Throughout World War I, Jenkins primarily served on patrol and escort duty in the Atlantic Ocean, protecting convoys from German U-boats. She operated primarily off the coast of the United States and in European waters.

Following the end of World War I, Jenkins continued to serve in the Navy for several years, primarily involved in training exercises and fleet maneuvers. She was decommissioned in 1922 and later scrapped in 1935, having completed her service life as technology advanced and newer destroyers were commissioned. She did not participate in World War II.
