Truro

Truro is a cathedral city and civil parish in Cornwall, England. It is Cornwall's only city and is its administrative, leisure and retail centre. Truro grew as an important trading centre due to its port and its proximity to the tin mining industry.

History

While there is evidence of Roman settlement in the area, Truro's significant growth began in the 12th century with the construction of Truro Castle by Richard de Luci. This castle controlled a crossing point on the River Kenwyn. The town's importance grew further with the tin mining boom in the region. Truro became a stannary town, gaining certain privileges related to the tin trade.

Geography and Climate

Truro is situated in a valley at the confluence of the rivers Kenwyn and Allen, which combine to form the Truro River. This river flows into the Carrick Roads, a large natural harbor. The city experiences a temperate maritime climate, with mild winters and cool summers.
