Tragic Ballad (film)

Tragic Ballad is a 2010 Spanish-French black comedy film directed by Álex de la Iglesia. The film, originally titled "Balada Triste de Trompeta" (Sad Trumpet Ballad), blends elements of slapstick, political satire, and psychological thriller, set against the backdrop of Francoist Spain.

The plot centers on two rival clowns, Javier and Sergio, who both fall in love with Natalia, an acrobat. Javier, the sad clown, is the son of a Republican circus performer who was forced to participate in a massacre during the Spanish Civil War. Sergio, the happy clown, is abusive and violent. The love triangle unfolds amidst a chaotic and increasingly surreal landscape, reflecting the social and political tensions of the era.
