Tom Bateman (British Army officer)
Tom Bateman (born c. 1975) is a British Army officer who served in the Royal Regiment of Scotland. He is most notable for his actions during the Iraq War in 2003, particularly during the Battle of Al Zubayr. As a captain, Bateman commanded a company of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment of Scotland). During the battle, his company played a key role in securing a strategically important bridge. He was subsequently awarded the Military Cross for his courage and leadership in the face of enemy fire.
