Jim Cummins (ice hockey)

Jim Cummins (born March 6, 1971) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played right wing.

Cummins was drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round, 17th overall, of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders, Colorado Avalanche, and the New Jersey Devils.

Prior to his NHL career, Cummins played junior hockey for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he was a highly touted prospect known for his scoring ability and physical play. He recorded over 100 points in both the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons with Prince Albert.

Cummins's NHL career was characterized by a more defensive role than his junior career suggested. While he showed flashes of offensive potential, he primarily served as a hard-working, physical player who focused on checking and penalty killing. He was a valued role player for several teams throughout his career.

After retiring from professional hockey, Cummins has remained involved in the sport, including coaching at the youth level.
