The Water Magician (novel series)

The Water Magician is a fantasy novel series by British author, Philippa Ballantine. The series currently consists of two published novels, The Water Magician (2010) and The Changelings (2011), with a third novel, The Thief's Daughter, planned but not yet released.

The series is set in a fantastical version of 18th-century England, drawing inspiration from both traditional faerie lore and historical naval themes. The novels follow the protagonist, Thomas, who possesses the ability to manipulate water and is reluctantly drawn into the world of fae and the intrigues surrounding the royal court.

The Water Magician introduces Thomas and his accidental discovery of his powers, as well as his entanglement with the fae Queen, Morgaine. He is conscripted into the Royal Navy and finds his powers are essential to protecting England from magical threats.

The Changelings sees Thomas continuing his service in the navy while navigating the complexities of his relationship with the fae. He must contend with political machinations and dangers both within and beyond the mortal realm.

The overarching themes explored in The Water Magician series include duty, sacrifice, the clash between the mundane and the magical, and the exploration of identity.
