The Innocent (band)
The Innocent were a British indie pop band formed in 1985 in London. They are best known for their single "Honest," which achieved moderate success in the UK charts in 1986.
The band consisted of Steve Skinner (vocals, guitar), Phil Spalding (bass), Keith Fernley (keyboards), and Steve "Frank" Sidwell (drums). Their sound was characterized by melodic pop sensibilities, often incorporating elements of new wave and synth-pop.
The Innocent released several singles and one studio album, "Danger of Loving," in 1986. The album received generally positive reviews for its catchy hooks and polished production. Despite building a following and enjoying radio airplay, the band failed to achieve mainstream commercial success.
The Innocent disbanded in the late 1980s. Phil Spalding continued to work as a session musician, playing with artists such as Mike Oldfield and Seal. The other members largely faded from the music scene.
Although their time in the spotlight was relatively brief, The Innocent are remembered by fans of 1980s British indie pop and are often cited as a notable example of a band that deserved greater recognition. "Honest" remains their signature song and a staple of 1980s music compilations.
