The Healer (2016 film)
The Healer is a 2016 drama film directed by Paco Arango. It stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Camilla Luddington, Jorge Garcia, and Jonathan Pryce.
The film tells the story of Alec Bailey, a gambling, womanizing electrical repairman living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, who discovers he has the gift of healing. Alec is visited by his estranged uncle Raymond Heacock, who is terminally ill and offers to clear all his debts if Alec will agree to spend a year in Nova Scotia. During that time, Alec finds himself to be a miraculous healer. Initially skeptical, Alec slowly accepts his gift and begins helping people, particularly children suffering from cancer. He must come to terms with the responsibility that comes with his newfound ability.
The film addresses themes of faith, hope, redemption, and the power of compassion. It was inspired by Arango's experiences with serious illness in his own family and his work with children's cancer charities. The Healer also highlights the importance of organ donation and supports efforts to raise awareness and funding for cancer research.
