The Emptiness (album)
The Emptiness is the seventh studio album by the American rock band Alesana. It was released on January 26, 2010, through Fearless Records. The album is a concept album, loosely based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story, "Annabel Lee," and also draws inspiration from other works of Poe. It tells a dark and gothic love story, with themes of loss, despair, and madness.
Musically, The Emptiness blends elements of metalcore, post-hardcore, and screamo, with significant use of clean vocals alongside screamed vocals. The album also incorporates symphonic and theatrical elements to enhance its narrative. It is known for its complex instrumentation, dynamic song structures, and dramatic atmosphere.
The Emptiness received generally positive reviews, with critics praising its ambitious concept, intricate musicianship, and emotional depth. Some reviewers, however, found the story difficult to follow and the album overly theatrical. Commercially, it reached number 68 on the Billboard 200 chart.
