The Donkeys (band)
The Donkeys are an American indie rock band formed in San Diego, California, in 2003. The band is known for their eclectic sound, which blends elements of surf rock, psychedelic rock, folk, and pop.
History:
The Donkeys were formed by high school friends Anthony Lukens (vocals, guitar), Sam Gendel (bass), and Jessie Gulati (drums). They later added Timothy DeNardo (keyboards, vocals). The band began playing local shows in San Diego and quickly developed a following due to their energetic live performances and catchy songwriting.
Their debut album, Buckets of Songs, was released in 2005 on the independent label, Easy Sound Recording Co. This album helped to solidify their reputation within the indie music scene.
The band gained wider recognition with their second album, Living on the Other Side, released in 2008 on Dead Oceans. This album showcased a more polished sound while retaining the band's signature quirky songwriting.
They have toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, often supporting other notable indie bands.
The Donkeys have released several additional albums, including Born with Stripes (2011), Ride the Black Wave (2014), and Midnight Palms (2018).
