The Commodore (novel)

The Commodore is the second novel in Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey–Maturin series of historical naval fiction, following Master and Commander. Published in 1945 in the UK and 1970 in the US, it continues the adventures of Captain Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy and his friend and intelligence agent, Dr. Stephen Maturin.

The novel finds Aubrey navigating the intricacies of naval command while facing professional jealousy and personal challenges. He is appointed Commodore of a small squadron tasked with escorting a convoy. Maturin's intelligence activities also continue, adding a layer of espionage and political intrigue to the narrative.
