Terremoto (drink)

A terremoto (Spanish for "earthquake") is a Chilean alcoholic beverage. It is traditionally made with pipeño (a sweet, fermented wine), pineapple ice cream, and fernet. Some variations may also include grenadine or a splash of rum or other spirit.

The drink is known for its high alcohol content and rapid onset of effects. It is often served in large glasses, typically one-liter capacity, and is particularly popular during Chilean national holidays, especially Fiestas Patrias in September. The name "terremoto" is believed to originate from the drink's potent effect, which can leave drinkers feeling like they've experienced an earthquake. A common follow-up drink, meant to prolong the experience, is called a réplica ("aftershock") and is typically a smaller version of the terremoto.
