Sugrivajne (Sugriva pledge)
The term "Sugrivajne" (सुग्रीवज्ञे) refers to the pledge or promise made to Sugriva, the monkey king in the Hindu epic Ramayana. Specifically, it signifies Rama's vow to help Sugriva regain his kingdom and wife, Ruma, from his brother Vali. This promise was crucial to the alliance formed between Rama and Sugriva. In exchange for Rama's assistance in overthrowing Vali, Sugriva pledged to help Rama find his abducted wife, Sita. This mutual commitment formed the bedrock of their strategic partnership against Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, who had abducted Sita. The success of Rama's mission hinged significantly on fulfilling the "Sugrivajne," which involved Rama's intervention in the conflict between Vali and Sugriva. The term underlines the importance of oaths and fulfilling promises in the context of dharma and alliances within the Ramayana narrative.
