Stalag 13 (film set)
The Stalag 13 film set was a key element in the production of the American television sitcom Hogan's Heroes, which aired from 1965 to 1971. The set represented a German prisoner-of-war (POW) camp during World War II. Although depicted as being in Germany, the set was located on the CBS Studio Center lot in Studio City, Los Angeles, California.
The Stalag 13 set consisted primarily of several barracks buildings, a guard tower, and a surrounding barbed wire fence. The layout was designed to suggest a large camp while remaining manageable for filming. Interior shots were often filmed on separate soundstages. The appearance of the set was intentionally designed to be somewhat comedic and less severe than a real POW camp, in keeping with the show's lighthearted tone.
The exterior of the Kommandant's office, commanded by Colonel Klink, was a prominent feature of the set. The area around the barracks served as a central location for many scenes, facilitating the covert operations of the POWs led by Colonel Hogan.
The Stalag 13 set was a familiar and recognizable element of the show's production and contributed significantly to its overall visual identity and the establishment of its comedic premise. After Hogan's Heroes ended its run, the Stalag 13 set was used, partially or in modified form, in other television productions.
