Speed (Japanese band)

Speed was a popular Japanese all-female J-pop group that debuted in 1996 and disbanded in 2000. The group consisted of Hiroko Shimabukuro, Takako Uehara, Eriko Imai, and Hitoe Arakaki. At the time of their debut, the members were very young, ranging from 11 to 14 years old, which contributed to their widespread appeal among young audiences.

Speed was known for their energetic dance routines and catchy pop songs, often incorporating elements of R&B and hip-hop. They achieved considerable commercial success with numerous hit singles and albums, including "Body & Soul," "STEADY," and "White Love." Their music often topped the Oricon charts in Japan.

The group's popularity peaked in the late 1990s, influencing the Japanese music scene and inspiring numerous other girl groups. They officially disbanded in March 2000, citing a desire to pursue individual careers.

After their disbandment, each member embarked on solo projects in music and acting. Hiroko Shimabukuro pursued a solo career as Hiro, while Eriko Imai became a politician.

Speed has reunited on several occasions for special performances and commemorative releases, allowing fans to relive their iconic music and dance performances. These reunions solidified their legacy as one of the most influential girl groups in Japanese pop music history. They remain an important part of the J-pop cultural landscape.
