Slapshock

Slapshock was a Filipino rock band formed in 1997. Known for their nu-metal sound blended with elements of hardcore and alternative rock, they were a prominent act in the Philippine rock scene for over two decades.

History:

The band was formed by childhood friends Lean Ansing (guitar), Jerry Basco (guitar), and Chi Evora (drums). They later recruited vocalist Jamir Garcia and bassist Lee Nadela. The band’s name, "Slapshock," was intended to be provocative and attention-grabbing, reflecting their energetic and aggressive musical style.

Musical Style and Influences:

Slapshock's music is characterized by heavy guitar riffs, aggressive drumming, and Garcia's distinctive vocals, which ranged from melodic singing to harsh screams and growls. They drew influences from bands like Rage Against the Machine, Korn, and Deftones. Their music often explored themes of social commentary, personal struggles, and rebellion.

Slapshock released several successful albums, including "4th Degree Burn" (1999), "Headtrip" (2001), "Project 11-41" (2002), "Novena" (2004), "Kinse" (2011), and "Atake" (2015). They were known for their energetic live performances and extensive touring schedule.

Breakup:

The band disbanded in 2020 following the death of vocalist Jamir Garcia. His passing marked the end of an era for Slapshock and the Philippine rock scene.
