Sitabhog
Sitabhog is a popular sweet dish originating from Bardhaman, West Bengal, India. It is a type of rice-based sweet, often described as a Bengali pulao or sweet rice vermicelli. Sitabhog is traditionally made from gobindobhog rice flour, sugar, ghee (clarified butter), and food coloring, typically saffron or orange.
The rice flour is cooked with sugar and ghee until it forms a soft, granular texture resembling tiny rice grains or vermicelli. Food coloring is added to give it its characteristic orange or saffron hue. It is often flavored with cardamom or other spices.
Sitabhog is commonly served alongside Mihidana, another sweet dish from Bardhaman, making them a popular combination known as "Sitabhog-Mihidana." These sweets are frequently enjoyed during festivals, celebrations, and special occasions in West Bengal. While Sitabhog is available year-round in some sweet shops, it is particularly associated with the city of Bardhaman and considered a local specialty. The dish is a reflection of the culinary traditions of the region and a significant part of its cultural heritage.
