Simonsig

Simonsig is a renowned wine estate located in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. It is recognized as one of the pioneers of the South African wine industry, particularly for its contribution to the Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) category – South Africa's term for sparkling wine made in the traditional method.

Founded in 1953 by Frans Malan, Simonsig was instrumental in the production of the first bottle-fermented sparkling wine in South Africa, released in 1971 under the name "Kaapse Vonkel." This achievement marked a significant milestone for the local wine industry, demonstrating the potential for producing high-quality sparkling wines within the country.
