Simon Jones (cricketer)
Simon Matthew Jones (born 25 December 1978) is a former English cricketer. He was a right-arm fast bowler who played primarily for Glamorgan County Cricket Club and later Worcestershire. He represented England in 18 Test matches and 8 One Day Internationals.
Jones was a key member of the England team that won the Ashes series in 2005. He was known for his ability to generate significant pace and swing, making him a challenging bowler for batsmen to face. His career was often impacted by injuries, particularly to his knee and ankle.
He began his first-class career with Glamorgan in 1998. After showing promise, he earned his first England call-up in 2002. His most successful period was between 2004 and 2006, culminating in the Ashes victory. He joined Worcestershire in 2007 and played there until his retirement in 2011. Following his retirement from professional cricket, Jones has worked as a cricket commentator and coach.
