Ben's Cat

Ben's Cat (2006 – 2017) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse known for his remarkable longevity and versatility, competing successfully at a high level from ages 4 to 9. Bred and owned by King Leatherbury, he was a multiple graded stakes winner, primarily competing in sprint races on both turf and dirt.

Ben's Cat was foaled in Maryland and initially raced for modest purses. However, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a fan favorite due to his consistent performances and Leatherbury's hands-on approach to training and ownership. Some of his most notable victories include multiple editions of the Jim McKay Turf Sprint Stakes, the Parx Dash Handicap, and the Mister Diz Stakes.

He was admired for his ability to win on different surfaces and at various distances, showcasing his adaptability and athleticism. Ben's Cat retired in 2017 and was later humanely euthanized due to complications from colic. He left behind a legacy as a Maryland racing legend, known for his tenacity, consistency, and the strong bond he shared with his owner and trainer. He was inducted into the Maryland Racing Hall of Fame in 2018.
