Shambhala (roller coaster)
Shambhala is a hypercoaster located in PortAventura Park in Salou, Spain. Opened on May 12, 2012, it was Europe's tallest and fastest roller coaster upon its debut. The ride is themed after the mythical Himalayan kingdom of Shambhala and forms part of the park's China area.
Shambhala is notable for its height (76 meters / 249 feet), making it one of the tallest roller coasters in Europe. It features five camelback hills providing significant airtime, and reaches a top speed of 134 km/h (83 mph). The ride utilizes lap bar restraints, providing a feeling of greater freedom compared to over-the-shoulder harnesses.
The coaster was designed and manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), a Swiss roller coaster company renowned for their smooth and intense rides. The layout consists of a series of drops, hills, and turns designed to maximize speed and airtime. Shambhala consistently ranks highly among coaster enthusiasts and is a major attraction for PortAventura Park.
The ride's opening significantly contributed to increased park attendance and solidified PortAventura's position as a leading European theme park destination.
