Seven Mountains (album)
Seven Mountains is the thirteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Steve Earle, released in 2002. It is Earle's first bluegrass album, and a departure from his primarily rock and country-influenced work.
The album features a strong emphasis on traditional bluegrass instrumentation and vocal harmonies. Several tracks feature collaborations with bluegrass musicians such as Del McCoury and The Fairfield Four. Lyrically, Seven Mountains explores themes of faith, loss, redemption, and the Appalachian landscape. The album's title is likely a reference to the rugged topography of the Appalachian Mountains, a region that holds significant cultural and personal meaning for Earle.
Seven Mountains was generally well-received by critics, who praised Earle's authentic engagement with the bluegrass genre and the album's heartfelt songwriting. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2003.
