Sergio Ulloa

Sergio Ulloa is a Chilean-born physicist specializing in condensed matter physics and theoretical nanoscience. He is currently a professor of physics at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he has been since 1992.

Ulloa's research focuses on the electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of nanostructures, particularly quantum dots, nanowires, and two-dimensional materials such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of spin-orbit interactions in these systems, and their potential applications in spintronics and quantum computing. He is also known for his work on the theory of exciton condensation and transport in nanoscale systems.

Ulloa received his undergraduate degree from the Universidad de Chile in Santiago, and his Ph.D. in physics from Purdue University in 1986. Prior to joining Ohio University, he held postdoctoral positions at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Georgia.

He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, an honor awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to physics. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at numerous international conferences. Ulloa has also served on various advisory boards and review panels for national and international funding agencies.
