Sena III

Sena III was the ruler of Anuradhapura in ancient Sri Lanka. He reigned from 972 to 975 AD. He was a member of the Lambakanna dynasty.

Little is definitively known about Sena III's reign. The Culavamsa, the primary historical source for Sri Lankan history during this period, provides a brief account of his rule, mentioning his efforts to maintain order and uphold Buddhist traditions. It suggests his reign was relatively peaceful but also implies a period of instability or decline in the kingdom. He is described as pious and supportive of the Buddhist sangha.

Sena III's brief reign was followed by that of Udaya IV. Due to the limited information available, historical accounts often group Sena III's reign with those of other rulers during a turbulent period in Anuradhapura history, characterized by Chola invasions and internal power struggles. More detailed information about his specific policies and major events during his reign is scarce.
