Sardoal
Sardoal is a municipality in Portugal, located in the district of Santarém, in the Centro Region and Médio Tejo subregion. The population in 2011 was 3,939, in an area of 128.69 km².
The municipality is composed of 4 parishes: Alcaravela, Santiago de Montalegre, Sardoal e Valhascos, and União de freguesias de Sardoal e Valhascos (which itself contains the former parishes of Sardoal and Valhascos).
Sardoal is known for its well-preserved historic center, which features examples of Manueline and Renaissance architecture. The town’s history is closely linked to the Order of Christ, and its strategic location contributed to its importance in the past.
