Sampieri
Sampieri is a coastal village and frazione of the municipality of Scicli, located in the province of Ragusa, Sicily, Italy. It is situated on the southern coast of the island, approximately 13 kilometers from Scicli.
Sampieri is known for its long sandy beach, characterized by fine golden sand and clear waters, making it a popular tourist destination, particularly during the summer months. The village is also noted for its former brick factory, the Fornace Penna, a large abandoned industrial complex situated on a promontory overlooking the sea just outside the village. This structure, with its imposing presence and state of decay, has become a local landmark and has been featured in several films and television series, most notably the Italian television drama Inspector Montalbano.
Historically, Sampieri was a small fishing village. While fishing remains an important part of the local economy, tourism has become increasingly significant in recent decades. The village offers a range of amenities for visitors, including hotels, restaurants, and bars. The surrounding area is characterized by Mediterranean scrubland and agricultural land, adding to the scenic beauty of the location.
