Sam Ard
Sam Ard (August 3, 1939 – May 7, 2017) was an American stock car racing driver. He is best known for his success in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series (now the NASCAR Xfinity Series) in the 1980s. Ard won the series championship twice, in 1983 and 1984.
Ard's career was relatively short but impactful. He quickly established himself as a dominant force in the Busch Series, racking up numerous wins and consistently contending for championships. He was known for his aggressive driving style and his ability to wheel a car.
A severe accident at Rockingham Speedway in 1984 effectively ended his racing career. The injuries sustained forced him to retire from driving. Following his retirement, Ard remained involved in motorsports, primarily through team ownership and mentorship.
Despite his abbreviated career, Sam Ard is considered a legend of the Busch Grand National Series. His two championships and his undeniable talent left a lasting mark on the sport. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2018.
