Roy Walker (comedian)

Roy Walker (born 16 July 1940) is a Northern Irish comedian and television personality, best known as the host of the game show Catchphrase from 1986 to 1999 on ITV.

Walker began his career as a singer and musician before transitioning to comedy. He honed his comedic skills on the cabaret circuit and in working men's clubs. His clean-cut image and family-friendly humour made him a popular choice for television.

His stint hosting Catchphrase catapulted him to national fame. The show, which involved contestants guessing phrases visually represented by animations, was a ratings success and became synonymous with Walker's catchphrases, most notably "Say what you see!".

Following his departure from Catchphrase, Walker continued to work in television and theatre, appearing in pantomimes and various comedy shows. He also made guest appearances on shows such as Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights.

Walker's comedic style is often described as observational and anecdotal, drawing on everyday life experiences. He is known for his gentle humour and rapport with audiences.
