Ron Thompson (blues guitarist)
Ron Thompson (June 5, 1953 – June 14, 1993) was an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for his fiery guitar work and distinctive vocals. He was a prominent figure in the West Coast blues scene, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Thompson began his career in the early 1970s, playing with artists like Little Joe Blue. He formed his own band, the Ron Thompson and the Resistors, and released several albums throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. His music often blended traditional blues with elements of rock and roll and soul.
Thompson was known for his improvisational skills and ability to create dynamic and exciting live performances. He was also respected for his knowledge of blues history and his dedication to preserving the genre's traditions. He toured extensively, both in the United States and internationally, building a dedicated following.
Tragically, Ron Thompson died in 1993 at the young age of 40 from a brain aneurysm. Despite his relatively short career, he left a lasting impact on the blues world and is remembered as a talented and influential musician. His recordings continue to be appreciated by blues enthusiasts today.
