Roger Fisher (organist)
Roger Fisher (born 1941) is a British organist and music educator, known for his performances and recordings of Romantic and 20th-century organ music, particularly French repertoire.
Fisher studied at the Royal College of Music with Ralph Downes, and subsequently held positions as Organ Scholar at St George's Chapel, Windsor, and Organist and Master of the Choristers at Chester Cathedral from 1967 to 1996. During his tenure at Chester Cathedral, he oversaw the restoration of the cathedral's renowned organ.
He has given numerous recitals internationally and is a respected teacher, having held positions at the Royal Northern College of Music and as Visiting Professor at the University of Chester. His recordings, often praised for their clarity and musicality, include works by Widor, Vierne, Tournemire, and Messiaen. He is also known for his improvisational skills. Fisher's contributions to organ music have solidified his reputation as a significant figure in the field.
