Robert Mitchell (New Zealand politician)

Robert Mitchell was a New Zealand politician who served as a Member of Parliament for the National Party. He represented the Invercargill electorate from 1975 to 1987.

Born in Invercargill, Mitchell was involved in local government before entering national politics. He served on the Invercargill City Council.

In Parliament, Mitchell held various select committee roles and was known as a strong advocate for the Southland region. He was a backbench MP during his tenure and focused primarily on local issues such as farming, fishing, and infrastructure. He did not hold any ministerial portfolios.

Mitchell lost his seat in the 1987 election to Labour's Dave Rose. After leaving Parliament, he returned to local business and community involvement in Invercargill.
