Robert Horton (actor)

Robert Horton (1924 – 2016) was an American actor known primarily for his roles in television westerns.

Born Meade Howard Horton Jr. in Los Angeles, California, Horton had a career spanning over five decades, encompassing film, television, and stage work. He is perhaps best remembered for his co-starring role as scout Flint McCullough in the NBC western television series Wagon Train from 1957 to 1962. He left Wagon Train in 1962 due to contractual disputes and a desire to pursue other opportunities.

Prior to Wagon Train, Horton appeared in a number of films, including Apache War Smoke (1952) and Pony Soldier (1952). After leaving Wagon Train, he starred in the short-lived western series A Man Called Shenandoah (1965-1966). He also appeared as a guest star in numerous television shows, including Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The F.B.I., Murder, She Wrote, and The Love Boat.

Beyond his screen work, Horton was an accomplished singer and stage performer. He starred in numerous stage productions, including Oklahoma!, Mame, and Paint Your Wagon. He toured extensively with these productions throughout the United States and internationally.

Horton was married three times. He died on March 9, 2016, at the age of 91. His contributions to the western genre in television and his diverse talents across various entertainment mediums cemented his place in the annals of American entertainment.
