Richard Goldstein (astronomer)

Richard Goldstein is a planetary scientist and astronomer known for his work in radar astronomy, particularly in the study of near-Earth asteroids and planetary surfaces. He made significant contributions to the understanding of asteroid shapes, sizes, spin states, and surface properties through radar observations.

Goldstein was a pioneer in developing and utilizing radar techniques for astronomical purposes. His work at the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex in California (part of the NASA Deep Space Network) enabled the detailed imaging and characterization of asteroids that were previously only points of light. These observations provided crucial information for assessing the potential threat of Earth-impacting asteroids and for planning future space missions to asteroids.
