Richard Boyle (bishop of Ferns and Leighlin)

Richard Boyle (died 3 December 1644) was an Irish Anglican clergyman who served as Bishop of Ferns and Leighlin.

Boyle was a member of the prominent Boyle family, known for its influence in Irish politics and church affairs. He was the son of Michael Boyle, Archbishop of Dublin, and thus part of a powerful ecclesiastical dynasty.

He was appointed Bishop of Ferns and Leighlin in 1620. During his episcopate, Boyle was actively involved in the administration of his dioceses. He participated in the governing structures of the Church of Ireland and oversaw the parishes under his jurisdiction. His time as bishop coincided with a turbulent period in Irish history, marked by growing tensions between the English Crown, Protestant settlers, and the native Irish population.

Boyle died on 3 December 1644. His death occurred amidst the Irish Confederate Wars, a complex conflict that significantly impacted religious and political life in Ireland.
