Unibanco

Unibanco was a major Brazilian financial institution. Established in 1924 as União de Bancos Brasileiros S.A., it grew to become one of the largest commercial banks in Brazil, offering a wide range of financial services including retail banking, corporate banking, investment banking, asset management, and insurance.

Throughout its history, Unibanco was known for its innovation and strong brand recognition within Brazil. It expanded significantly through acquisitions and strategic partnerships.

In 2008, Unibanco merged with Itaú, another prominent Brazilian bank, to form Itaú Unibanco. The merger created the largest financial conglomerate in the Southern Hemisphere at the time. Following the merger, the Unibanco brand was gradually phased out, and operations were integrated under the Itaú Unibanco name. The legacy of Unibanco, however, continues to influence Itaú Unibanco’s corporate culture and business practices.
