Rich Hill (pitcher)
Richard Joseph Hill (born March 11, 1980), nicknamed "D Mountain," is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, and San Diego Padres.
Hill is known for his comeback story, overcoming several injuries and control issues earlier in his career to become a successful starting pitcher in his mid-30s. His signature pitch is a looping curveball, often thrown with a high arm angle, that has proven difficult for hitters to track.
Hill was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2002 MLB draft. He made his major league debut in 2005 with the Cubs. After stints with several teams, he signed with the Boston Red Sox in 2015 and experienced a career resurgence. He subsequently pitched for the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers, enjoying considerable success with both teams. Throughout his career, he has battled various injuries, including blister issues on his pitching hand. Hill has been a respected veteran presence in the clubhouse, known for his work ethic and mentorship of younger players.
