Ray Roberts (politician)

Ray Roberts (July 31, 1913 – April 13, 1992) was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives for Texas's 4th congressional district from 1962 to 1981.

Born in McKinney, Texas, Roberts attended Grayson County Junior College and Southeastern Oklahoma State Teachers College. He served in the United States Army during World War II, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Prior to his congressional service, Roberts practiced law and served as a County Judge for Collin County, Texas.

Roberts was elected to Congress in a special election following the death of Sam Rayburn, the long-serving Speaker of the House. During his tenure, he served on the Public Works Committee and the Veterans' Affairs Committee, becoming chairman of the latter. He was a strong advocate for veterans' benefits and infrastructure development within his district.

Roberts did not seek re-election in 1980. He died in 1992 in McKinney, Texas.
