RPG-29
The RPG-29 "Vampir" is a Soviet-designed, man-portable, anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade launcher. It was adopted by the Soviet Army in 1989. The RPG-29 is notable for its tandem-charge warhead, designed to defeat explosive reactive armor (ERA) as well as conventional armor. It consists of a 125mm grenade and a launch tube.
The primary purpose of the RPG-29 is to engage and destroy tanks and other armored vehicles. Its tandem warhead first detonates a small charge to clear ERA blocks, followed by a larger main charge to penetrate the underlying armor.
Key features of the RPG-29 include:
- Tandem Warhead: This is the weapon's defining characteristic, allowing it to bypass ERA.
- 125mm Grenade: The large caliber grenade delivers a significant payload for armor penetration.
- Man-Portable: While heavier than some earlier RPG designs, it remains portable by a two-man crew (one to carry and load, one to fire).
- Optics: It typically uses a 1P38 optical sight for aiming.
The RPG-29 has seen combat in various conflicts since its introduction, and its effectiveness against modern main battle tanks has been a topic of discussion and analysis within military circles.
