Gus Poyet
Gustavo Augusto Poyet Domínguez (born 15 November 1967) is a Uruguayan professional football manager and former player.
As a player, Poyet was a midfielder known for his goalscoring ability. He played for Grenoble, River Plate, Real Zaragoza, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic during his career. He won the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup with Real Zaragoza. He also won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the FA Cup with Chelsea. He earned 26 caps for the Uruguay national football team, scoring three goals, and played in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
After retiring from playing, Poyet transitioned into coaching. His managerial career has included spells at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he led the team to the League One title and the Championship play-offs, Sunderland, AEK Athens, Real Betis, Shanghai Shenhua, and Bordeaux. He has also managed in the Greek Super League with AEK Athens, and most recently, the Greece national football team. He has also worked as a coach for Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur. Poyet is known for his tactical flexibility and his emphasis on attacking football. He is widely regarded as one of Uruguay's most successful footballing exports.
