RAQSCI

RAQSCI is an acronym used primarily within the field of software development and IT to represent a specific allocation of responsibilities during a project or initiative. It is a variant of the more common RACI matrix, expanding upon its core concepts. RAQSCI stands for:

  • Responsible: The person or group who does the work to complete the task. At least one role must be responsible for each task.
  • Accountable: The individual who is ultimately answerable for the correct and thorough completion of the deliverable or task. This person has the final authority and is held to account. There should only be one accountable person specified for each task or deliverable.
  • Quality: The person or group responsible for ensuring that the work meets the required quality standards and criteria. They define, measure, and validate the quality of the output.
  • Support: Resources allocated to provide backing, assistance, and guidance to the Responsible party. Support personnel assist in completing the task, but are not ultimately accountable for its execution.
  • Consulted: Individuals or groups whose opinions are sought. They possess information or expertise needed to complete the task. Two-way communication.
  • Informed: Individuals or groups who are kept up-to-date on progress, often only on completion of the task or deliverable. One-way communication.

The RAQSCI model, like RACI, is often presented in a matrix format. Tasks are listed along one axis (typically rows), and roles or individuals are listed along the other axis (typically columns). The corresponding cells are then populated with the appropriate letter to indicate each role's involvement.

The 'Quality' role differentiates RAQSCI from the standard RACI matrix, providing a specific focus on ensuring the work meets pre-defined standards. This can be particularly valuable in projects where quality assurance is a critical factor. The use of RAQSCI can clarify roles, reduce confusion, and promote a more efficient and effective workflow by explicitly defining responsibility for quality control.
