Preah Vihear (town)
Preah Vihear is a small town in northern Cambodia, serving as the capital of Preah Vihear Province. It is situated relatively close to the border with Thailand and is best known as the gateway to the ancient temple of Prasat Preah Vihear, which is the province's main tourist attraction.
The town itself is a relatively quiet and underdeveloped settlement. Its economy is primarily driven by agriculture and tourism related to the temple. Infrastructure is limited, though there have been ongoing efforts to improve roads and facilities to accommodate the increasing number of visitors.
While the temple is the primary draw, the surrounding province offers other natural attractions, including mountains, forests, and waterfalls. The town of Preah Vihear provides basic accommodation and services for those exploring the region. Due to its location near a historically disputed border, there have been periods of instability in the area, although the situation has largely stabilized in recent years. The town's population is relatively small, and the lifestyle is predominantly rural.
