Plexaure (mythology)
In Greek mythology, Plexaure is a Nereid, one of the fifty daughters of Nereus and Doris. The Nereids were sea nymphs known for their beauty and helpfulness to sailors. They were generally associated with the Aegean Sea and were considered benevolent deities. Plexaure, like her sisters, resided in the depths of the sea alongside her parents and was part of the retinue of Poseidon, the god of the sea. She is primarily known through her listing in various accounts of the Nereids, such as those provided by Homer in the Iliad and by Hesiod in his Theogony. While Plexaure is mentioned in these texts, no specific myths or stories detailing her individual deeds or characteristics are known to have survived. Her significance lies mainly in her inclusion as a member of the large and important group of sea nymphs who personified the beauty and bounty of the ocean.
