Philip Palmer (priest)

Philip Palmer (born 1583, died 1647) was an English clergyman and academic. He served as a chaplain to Charles I and was known for his staunch Royalist views during the English Civil War.

Palmer was educated at Exeter College, Oxford, matriculating in 1599 and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1603, followed by a Master of Arts in 1606. He received a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1616 and a Doctor of Divinity in 1622.

He held various ecclesiastical positions throughout his career, including serving as a prebendary of Wells Cathedral. His sermons were noted for their strong support of the monarchy and the established Church of England. He was ejected from his living by Parliament during the Interregnum due to his Royalist sympathies.
