Phil Kelly (Australian footballer)
Phil Kelly (born 19 June 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne (later Sydney Swans) in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
A key position player, Kelly was recruited from Sandringham Technical School and debuted for South Melbourne in 1970. He quickly established himself in the team, known for his strong marking and reliable kicking.
Kelly primarily played as a full-back and occasionally at centre half-back. He was a consistent performer throughout the 1970s, regularly featuring in South Melbourne's best players. He was known for his dedication and commitment to the club during a period of limited success on the field.
He retired from VFL football at the end of the 1979 season, having played a total of 151 games for South Melbourne/Sydney.
After his VFL career, Kelly remained involved in Australian rules football, coaching at local levels. He is remembered as a loyal and respected player for South Melbourne/Sydney.
