Arinto

Arinto is a Portuguese white grape variety widely planted throughout Portugal, most notably in the Bucelas region near Lisbon, where it is the only authorized grape for the Bucelas DOC. It is also significant in the Vinho Verde region and is grown to a lesser extent in other parts of Portugal.

Arinto is known for its high acidity, making it a valued blending grape to add freshness and structure to wines. When made as a single-varietal wine, Arinto produces crisp, dry wines with citrus flavors, often with mineral notes and a distinctive flinty character. The wines are known for their aging potential, developing more complex flavors over time.

Other synonyms for Arinto include Pedernã (particularly in Vinho Verde), Arinto de Bucelas, Arintho, and Cerceal. The variety should not be confused with other grapes with similar names.
