Peter Stead (writer)
Peter Stead (1941-2024) was a Welsh writer, academic, and cultural historian. He was a prominent figure in Welsh literary and cultural circles, known for his extensive writing on Welsh history, culture, and society, with a particular focus on the role of cinema and popular culture.
Stead was educated at the University of Cambridge, where he earned a PhD. He spent much of his academic career at Swansea University, where he served as Professor of Welsh History.
His published works include books and articles on a range of topics including the history of the Labour Party in Wales, the history of the Welsh working class, and the representation of Wales in film. He was also a frequent contributor to Welsh media, commenting on contemporary cultural and political issues.
